How the MLB Trade Deadline Works
MLB has a single trade deadline — this season, Monday, August 3, 2026 at 6:00 PM ET. Since 2019 there are no August waiver trades: once the deadline passes, trades are done for the year. Teams can still add players afterward through free agency, waiver claims, or minor-league call-ups — but a player must be in his club’s organization by August 31 to be eligible for its postseason roster.
